This was a book club read on a topic I normally wouldn't pick. It felt like a collection of anecdotes that, while selected from a representatively wide range of time periods, geographic locations and other circumstances, was still somewhat haphazard. I'd give it 2 stars, but it's not the book's fault I'm reading it when I'm not terribly interested in the topic.
