Hob

Hob is a great game. It made me notice and enjoy things I'd normally overlook or filter out subconsciously. If you want something well-crafted, relaxing and engaging, give it a go....

Bandcamp - the best place to buy music

I love Bandcamp. They do almost exactly what I want from a music store. (I just think their search is a bit sucky - I often can't find what I'm looking for.) You can see my faves in the picture above. I would have never known about most of them, were it not for Bandcamp. Some things to love about it: They let you actually listen to the music, first. Every album is available in its entirety. You can listen to it a few times and then decide whether you want to buy it. NO DRM. For me, DRM is...

Moving from Windows Phone to Android

I'm a fan of Windows Phone. I like the design and the UX way more than its competition. I'd been a satisfied user of WP8.1 for years. However, since my old phone had died and I had to buy a new one, and Windows 10 Mobile turned out to be slow and buggy to the point of being completely useless, I had to switch. This post documents the good, the bad and the ugly of my experience. (Note: I'm I'm not at all convinced of iPhone's superiority, but even if I were, its price is prohibitive. I stick to...

The structure is largely the same: the best or the most interesting books are listed, sometimes with short notes or quotes of my reviews from Goodreads. I'll try to keep it short(ish), since there seems to be a lot of them here. I've listed the most most interesting books first, and divvied the rest into categories - but don't take them too seriously. (For example, I'm putting "The Long Earth"...

Books of 2016 - Non-fiction

I always try to keep track of the books I've read. This time around, I've also decided to try to write a short overview of the books I've read in the last year, in the hopes that it will quickly remind me of the highlights when I try to review them the next year. Or in the years after. This isn't an exhaustive list, just the best and most interesting ones. If something is written as a quote, it's taken from my Goodreads review. This list deals with non-fiction only. (Update: my fiction write-up is here.) The book links go...
